
Family of four hacked to death in Vankalai in Mannar
Father, mother and two children aged 9 and 7 were hacked to death at night in their small hut in the remote village of Thomaspuri in Vankalai in Mannar, in GoSL controlled area, on Thursday 8 June around 10.00 pm.The bodies of the father, Moorthy Martin (37), and the two children, Ann Deluxi, girl aged 9, Ann Deluxan, boy aged 7, were hung from the roof. The body of the mother, Chitra (27), was in another room on a mat on the floor.

Photo: Tamilnet The location is remote and sparsely built. The neighbours have all moved out for the night as they have been doing lately due to fear. Boot marks were found all around the house. A Silver Star worn on the belt of Sri Lankan military was found near the body of Chithra. Chitra was a good looking woman. Villagers said that the family is extremely poor is not involved in any suspicious activity. They speculated that the murder of the family could have been sexually motivated. SLA has visited the family’s hut on the 7 and 8 June, during the day, on the pretext of searching. Mannar Judge has ordered the police to produce the SLA personnel who visited the family’s hut on these two dates.
